Most people are not comfortable working past a certain time, and working the overnight shift or third shift can be extremely difficult for many. Unfortunately many do not have a choice when it comes to their job. If you are working rotating shifts, you should plan ahead for sleep especially when working the third shift. Most people are fine when they work 9-5 and even the second shift from 4- 12, but if you are working overnight, make sure that you have a quiet and comfortable place to sleep when you return home. A comfortable bed and good set of shades should do the trick. Keep away from strong stimulants. If you use too many stimulants especially during the last few hours on the job, they may stay in your system and keep you up well into the early afternoon. Try to stick to mild stimulants such as caffeine and stay away from stronger over the counter medication unless it is necessary. Most people usually snack throughout the night buying candy from the vending machines, but not only will you gain weight from all the calories in might contribute to fatigue. If you have to eat during the night, the best types of food are protein and water or juice. They don’t contain stimulants and they will not contribute to your fatigue.
